Located in southeast Asia, Vietnam (officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) is a country with a diverse landscape. From mountainous regions to the forests and coastal plains, Vietnam is host to an extremely high level of biodiversity.
Through its history Vietnam has at times been under Chinese control which has had a significant impact on society and culture. French colonialism has also affected the country, along with prolonged warfare in the 20th century. However, the Vietnamese people maintain a rich culture expressed in literature, music, and food. Family and community are also highly valued.
