Burkina Faso is a landlocked West African country with a diversity of people groups and cultures speaking around 60 different indigenous languages. Of these, Mooré, Bissa, Dyula and Fula have been given the status of official languages.
Burkina Faso has a tropical climate, reaching into the Sahara desert in the north, while the southern regions are more temperate and fertile. Burkina Faso remains one of the least developed countries in the world. Many Burkinabè are subsistence farmers, which means that they are directly affected by climate change, and food insecurity remains a problem.
Nonetheless, many communities in Burkina Faso maintain a rich artistic heritage. Music and dance are often celebrated, as you can see expressed in the bronze statues you’ll find in our store. As you look around, you may also see musical instruments or decorated leather boxes made by Burkinabè artisans.
