Product description

Intricately carved box with a stunning design, Fair Trade and handmade from Sheesham wood (also referred to as North Indian Rosewood) which is a sustainable, fast growing luxurious hardwood, taking approximately 4-5 years to grow, and is sourced from authorised timber mills in India that are under Government protection.

Handmade in Mumbai, India by a Fair Trade organisation with sustainable development at its heart. With 800 artisans and over 300 women empowered, they encourage the use of sustainable raw materials and employ parents to help their children gain an education and a financially stable home that is safe from poverty. They work closely with grassroots projects that help artisans set up businesses, learn IT skills and gain access to machinery and tools to perfect their craft. Artisans are provided with grants and opportunities to build a successful future, as well as access to medical camps that give free check-ups and medicine to the surrounding community.

It also helps support over 100 children through education, whilst providing necessities like books and shoes. For example, they have a 'feeding the family' initiative that distributes food & other essentials to 1,955 artisans' families of 9,009 individuals across the craft centres. Many of the recipients have said without these food packages they would simply have starved throughout the pandemic and would not still be here.

Fair Trade from India.
