Kashmir

Kashmir is a disputed Himalayan region in the northwestern Indian subcontinent.

The region became an important centre of Hinduism and later Buddhism under the rule of various dynasties. In the 14th century the region came under Muslim rule as the Kashmir Sultinate, and was later part of the Mughal Empire in the 16th - 18th centuries. In the 19th century it was annexed by the Sikh Empire, and later became part of the British Indian Empire. Following the Partition of India in 1947, it has become disputed territory, now administered by three countries: China, India, and Pakistan.

Here in Village Goods you’ll find beautifully embroidered bags and paper mache ornaments that help support artisans in this conflict-affected region. Your purchase ensures profits are shared with artisans, helping sustain their craft and families.
